After two weeks of searching and interviewing, Nebraska footballa€™s program is close to hiring its new defensive line coach.

A source at Nebraska confirmed Monday night that Cal defensive line coach Tony Tuioti is in the process of taking the job with the Huskers. A message from The World-Herald to Tuiotia€™s phone was not immediately returned, nor did Nebraska officially confirm an impending hiring.

NU had to replace Mike Dawson a€” who followed head coach Scott Frost from Central Florida to Nebraska in 2017 a€” when heA took a job with the NFLa€™s New York Giants Feb. 11. It has kept its search process quiet since then.

Tuioti has recently been coaching Cala€™s defensive linemen a€” his salary, according to USA Todaya€™s assistant coaching database, was $276,500. Before that, he spent two years with the NFLa€™s Cleveland Browns as a quality control defensive line coach. But hea€™s also coached linebackers, too, including 2017 at Cal, where Ben Moos, the son of NU Athletic Director Bill Moos, was a linebacker in 2018.
