Michigan State still looking for a QB in the 2019 recruiting class

With 16 total commits, Michigan State appears to have the bulk of its 2019 recruiting class in place.

There are offensive and defensive linemen, running backs and linebackers, receivers and a defensive back.

Noticeably absent, however, is a quarterback.

Dwan Mathis, a four-star quarterback from Oak Park High School, was committed to Michigan State for more than nine months before flipping to Ohio State on June 24.

Since coach Mark Dantonio took over the program prior to the 2007 season, Michigan State has signed at least one scholarship quarterback in every recruiting class but two. The last year the Spartans didn't sign a quarterback was 2014, and that was the result of a late decommitment.

"That's been our history - we've always tried to take a quarterback and just really tried to take one each year in each recruiting class," Michigan State quarterbacks coach Brad Salem said Monday, acknowledging that could still happen in the 2019 class.
