SMU QB Matt Davis declares for the 2017 NFL Draft

With pro days taking place and the NFL Scouting Combine already concluded, its normally not the time of the year when prospects declare for the annual draft.

But Matt Davis of Southern Methodist is not your normal quarterback. Hes been in the college ranks for five years and is coming off a 2016 campaign in which the signal caller missed all but two games after tearing his ACL.

Instead of returning to SMU for a sixth season, Davis has decided to declare for the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft.

Needless to say, Davis himself is behind the proverbial eight ball. Hes coming off a serious injury. Theres no real recent tape on him. He missed out on the combine. And in reality, he likely wasnt an early-round pick in the first place.

Though, Davis inclusion in the 2017 NFL Draft could very well create a trickle-down effect. At 6-foot-1 and 212 pounds hes not your prototypical pocket passer. But Davis boasts a relatively strong arm, is as athletic as they come and is what we would call a dual-threat under center.

In his only real full-time stint as a starting quarterback for SMU, Davis completed 55 percent of his passes for 2,259 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions back in 2015. He added 761 yards and 10 scores on the ground.
